This is a story about The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
It is a very much loved classic children’s story that teaches children numbers and days of the week. Yet it is so much more as this adorable caterpillar captivates us all children and adults alike. It is a simple story about a caterpillar that spends his days looking for food in all the wrong places (he should have come to Kosher Cakery) until he finally eats everything in sight. Eric Carle has a special touch with the illustrations that bring something extraordinary and unique to the pages, the holes which feed into children’s minds of the caterpillar eating, the change from caterpillar to butterfly; all of it captivating his audience.
Now that became our task.
We received a phone call from a grandmother who wanted to send something special and unique to her grandson. She wanted something memorable, something he would enjoy and oh- please make it gluten free!
Often the best ideas come when I am ready to work on the cake; or in this case cupcakes. We had been turning over ideas for a few days, the best one being a train because it lends itself so well to cupcakes. But then it hit us and we had the best idea.
We decided to turn our cupcakes into the caterpillar from Eric Carle’s book, which happens to be a book he loves.
It was perfect!
