Hi Everyone,

How often has this happened to you? You’re searching high and low for that perfect recipe. At last, you find  it. but Oh No. It’s calls for dairy ingredients. Now, for whatever reason, you do not want your food to be dairy. At least not this time. What to do?


The good news is that in most cases, you can find substitutes that will work just as well.

Milk can be substituted for non-dairy milk, such as soy, almond or rice. if the recipe is a cake, you can use orange juice – the idea here is a rich liquid. 


Cream can be substituted with coffee whitener, Rich’s Whip or cream of coconut.

Sour cream can be substituted with mayo (did you know that? It’s so cool) or Tofutti brand Parve sour cream.

Yogurt or crème fraiche is often needed for adding moisture, but it’s denser than milk; a good substitution is apple sauce or mashed bananas – those give you delicious moistness, plus they’re healthy. Hey, it’s a win win!

Cream cheese is best substituted with Tofutti brand cream cheese.
